Minister President Bouffier and Councillor Frank introduce the 'Showcase for Electromobility' competition, 16 Jan. 2012

(pia) Hesse, with the transport region Frankfurt Rhine-Main, wants to become the showcase for electromobility. The Minister President of Hesse Volker Bouffier declared this in Frankfurt on Monday. The state of Hesse is taking part in the federal competition as a showcase region for electromobility and will be supported by more than 100 project partners in this. For the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region, applications have been received for 134 projects with a total volume of around 156 million euros.

The competition programme organised by the German government has the objective of making Germany a leading market and leading provider for electromobility. The German government has also set itself the ambitious goal of having one million electric cars driving on Germany's roads by 2020. “Of these, some 75,000 electric cars should be driving on roads in Hesse,” Minister Bouffier said. If the competition is successful, this would bring subsidies of around 40 million euros into Hesse for this technological field of the future. During the period 2012 to 2015, Hesse will contribute a further 22 million euros to the federal funds.

Overall, there should be three to five electromobility showcases across Germany. Minister Bouffier regards the Frankfurt Rhine-Main transport region as well positioned for this. “We fulfil the conditions to a degree hardly matched by any other region. Hesse is one of the strongest regions in Germany economically and brings with it the necessary economic power to implement the projects,” Minister Bouffier explained. The Frankfurt Rhine-Main transport region itself would provide an outstanding sales market for electric vehicles.

Councillor Markus Frank, Head of Business, Sport, Security and the Fire Service, declared: “Frankfurt is predestined for projects dealing with sustainable strategies and networked structures. Anyone who thinks about electromobility cannot ignore Frankfurt Rhine-Main. The showcase region is an excellent opportunity for us to make further improvements in the transport chains in our metropolitan region.”

Become a partner in the showcase competition in Hesse

The state of Hesse and the city of Frankfurt have the ambitious goal of significantly increasing the number of approved electric vehicles on the roads in the region. In order for this challenging goal to be achieved, the state of Hesse and the city of Frankfurt require the active support of companies based there. Partners are therefore being sought who are prepared to convert part of their fleet to electric vehicles so as to be able to make a contribution to sustainable transport in the region.

The "Frankfurtemobil" website goes online, 12 Dec. 2011

On 12.12.2011, the "Frankfurtemobil" website went online again with a revised design and concept.

The new "Frankfurtemobil" website shows interested visitors the diversity of ongoing electromobility projects in Frankfurt am Main and provides information about current topics and events.

The city of Frankfurt am Main thus has a marketing instrument at its disposal to make progress visible in the area of electromobility. The realisation of the "Frankfurtemobil" website is a result of the collaboration between Economic Development Frankfurt GmbH, traffiQ Lokale Nahverkehrsgesellschaft mbH and ABGnova GmbH.

From the partners' perspective, the cooperation project will help in future to promote the topic of electromobility in Frankfurt in a more targeted manner.
